Earlier this year, we celebrated Black History Month in the office by sharing education around diversity and black history, attended events, and shared tasty treats and recipes from African and Caribbean traditions. We ended our celebrations last week with a fantastic Afrobeats dance class, and it turns out there are some excellent dancers amongst Active!

Our dance class organiser Danielle Nartey-Nevin said, ” I loved organising this event for Active, it was so much fun, and I loved sharing my culture with my colleagues.”

We are also helping Danielle collect and ship clothing donations from everyone at Active for a women’s refuge in Ghana that Danielle visited earlier this year.

“I met many women who were either widow or separated from their partners who had to work in faraway towns. Many spoke to me about their day to day struggles, including looking after, feeding and clothing their children. They wanted to learn crafts such as sewing or hairdressing, which would give them a steady income. On Christmas Day, I donated meal packages to the women and their children, and they were grateful as this isn’t something they would typically receive. The children were so happy, and this warmed my heart!”
